Quel giorno in Ohio: 11 settembre 2001

Abstract in English

9/11 - THAT DAY IN OHIO

In this article, Paola Lovisetti Scamihorn, a scientist and an essayist from Como (Italy), shares with Rekh Magazine's readers her personal memories of September 11, 2001, a day that changed the world forever.

At the time, Paola was in Ohio on vacation with her American husband and their two-year-old son, staying with her in-laws. They were watching TV when the first images of the Twin Towers appeared. At first, they thought it was a terrible accident. When the second plane hit, they realized it was an attack.

In the days that followed, America seemed to come to a standstill. Flights were cancelled, people were stranded, and even renting a car became difficult. Paola remembers the eerie silence in the skies over Ohio, where military planes had replaced the usual commercial flights. Although her family didn’t need to travel, they could feel the fear and confusion that had taken over the country.

Even today, the image that stays with Paola most is that unusually empty sky—a silence that said more than words ever could. It was the day she watched the world change, an experience she hopes never to live through again.
