Philosopher Habermas Dies at 96: a Philosophical Debt

The intellectual community mourns the passing of Jürgen Habermas, who died at the age of 96. As a preeminent figure of the Frankfurt School, Habermas achieved international renown for his evolution of Critical Theory. His prolific work on communicative rationality and social structures established him as a cornerstone of postwar philosophy, bridging the gap between abstract theory and active political engagement.

Nel giorno della morte di Jürgen Habermas (1929-2026), desidero esprimere riconoscenza a questo pensatore, per essere stato particolarmente importante nella mia formazione filosofica, specialmente per la riflessione sul valore dell’incontro (tematizzato in Incontro al dialogo. La sfida dell’intesa nei tempi della crisi, Franco Angeli, 2006) e per l’analisi dell’inaridimento dell’anima dei terroristi dopo l'11 Settembre. On the day of the passing of Jürgen Habermas (1929–2026), I wish to express my profound gratitude to a thinker who has been remarkable in my philosophical development. I am particularly indebted to his reflections on the value of the 'encounter'—as theorized in Incontro al dialogo. La sfida dell’intesa nei tempi della crisi (Franco Angeli, 2006)—and his incisive analysis of global terrorism after 9/11.
